11)The thumb of the left hand should be directly across from the 2nd finger of the same hand and should follow it up and down the fingerboard. This gives us an axis to work from that will allow us to add many more notes to our playing techniques without moving the thumb out to of position, thus, achieving a more legato technique.
12)It is best to use either a flat top steel string guitar or a classic nylon string guitar for songwriting purposes.
13)There are two basic concepts for striking the strings:
a) The use of picks; flat pick or finger picks.
b) Striking the strings by using the flesh of the thumb, the tips of the fingers, or a combination of both.
Variations that you will find are strumming across all the strings or picking individual strings in either an arpeggiated manner or for particular melody and/or bass notes that you may want to bring out.

14)Virgules, also known as 'hash marks', are used to indicate rhythm for chord symbols placed above the measure. This is used for a rhythm instrument such as guitar or piano, where a particular chord voicing is not required, but is left up to the instrumentalist. In Example No. 6, the G chord is played for two beats, A and D are given one beat each and G is played for two
beats.
15)When the bar does not have a chord symbol over it, the chord used in the preceding bar is
repeated.
