We met in the late 50's and I got to see Joe grow into a great artist of "Jazz Guitar." Joe told me,  "A  book or teacher may  be of invaluable assistance as a guide, pointing the way and drawing a reasonably straight line between you and your musical ambitions ... but the learning process still has to take place in YOUR head, the listening with YOUR ears and  the playing with YOUR hands."
